'What Portia Peach Won't Eat' is my first published book as an Author. So far I have illustrated quite a few but this book was three years in development.
I drew a few pictures first. Then the story came, it was a picture book at first but it got longer and longer and I realised it wasn't a picture book any more. I put it away and concentrated on illustrating. I'm glad I got it out again. It continued to grow into a chapter book, with illustrations of course. Here is the first bit: There are many different fruits and vegetables in the world. Little juice filled bombs that explode in your mouth when you bite down on them, fresh crunchy sticks that tickle your taste buds as they roll over your tongue; but Portia Peach hated them all. Her mother had tried her best to get them into her. She had mashed, strained and blended them. She had made her spoon into a train or a plane, but Portia Peach just made a rude face and spat them out. There were some foods she did like such as jams, jellies, biscuits, buns, and chocolate chip cookies, especially chocolate chip cookies. On a typical day Portia would enjoy chocolate spread on toast for breakfast, a giant chocolate chip cookie for lunch, and chips smothered in green jelly for tea … YES, I did say green jelly! As a result of this unusual diet Portia had somehow reached the age of nine and a half looking almost normal for a girl that age ... I said ALMOST. She was short, and her arms and legs were extremely skinny, her belly was a little round (from eating too much sugar) and she had spots on her face. In addition her hair was lank and greasy and she tended to pass wind rather too often (also a result of eating too much sugar).
